Beacon Southwest

The Southside Community Coalition Neighborhood Center and its neighbors are excited about the development of a Beacon Soccer Field, playground and park just south of our building. This is a catalyst in the rejuvenation of our section of the city. It brings together many partners and it will create a beautiful area and healthy activities for the thousands of families who live in our part of the city.

BEACON SOUTHWEST PROJECT

The construction of Beacon Park transformed three blighted properties into one great park in Southwest Lansing!

Beacon Field SW is more that just a field. An entire 3 acre park was built in the heart of this community and offers a destination for many. At the core, it follows the model established by the successful construction of the original Beacon Field just north of the Capitol Building downtown Lansing. It is located at the corner of Holmes and Pleasant Grove roads behind the South Side Community Coalition and includes:

  • KaBOOM! playground
  • Walking Trail
  • 60’x120′ synthetic professional grade turf playing surface
  • 48″ perimeter kick board
  • Post and netting on goals
  • LED light fixtures

It also serves as a space for events that will enhance the community’s experience with the facility, such as health and fitness education programs and activities.

Visit our patronicity page to see more information about part of the fundraising for the project.

We wholeheartedly endorse the efforts of Southside Community Coalition, the Southwest Action Group, the Capital City Soccer League and the many partners in their important and exciting work to develop the “Center of Southwest Lansing.” The vision includes a Beacon Soccer Field, one or two playgrounds, a walking trail, outdoor exercise equipment, native plantings and natural habitats.
