Beacon Southwest
The Southside Community Coalition Neighborhood Center and its neighbors are excited about the development of a Beacon Soccer Field, playground and park just south of our building. This is a catalyst in the rejuvenation of our section of the city. It brings together many partners and it will create a beautiful area and healthy activities for the thousands of families who live in our part of the city.
— David Wiener, Southside Community Coalition Board of Directors
WHAT WE NEED
The first Beacon field recieved $80,000 dollars from The City of Lansing parks improvement fund, and Beacon Southwest will not recieve this money. Therefore, we need your help to raise awareness of Beacon Southwest, to transform a pothole-ridden parking lot in a commercial area into a town square-like setting with public art and space for special events. Visit our patronicity page for more information.

This grassy area near West Holmes and Pleasant Grove roads is the proposed site for the Beacon Southwest Soccer Field. Organizers want to build the field behind the South Side Community Coalition. Features include:
- 60'x120' synthetic turf playing surface
- 48" perimeter kick board
- Post and netting on goals
- LED light fixtures
- Park
- Playground
- Walking Trail
- Outdoor Exercise Equipment
It also serves as a space for events that will enhance the community's experience with the facility, such as health and fitness education programs and activities.
We wholeheartedly endorse the efforts of Southside Community Coalition, the Southwest Action Group, the Capital City Soccer League and the many partners in their important and exciting work to develop the “Center of Southwest Lansing.” The vision includes a Beacon Soccer Field, one or two playgrounds, a walking trail, outdoor exercise equipment, native plantings and natural habitats.
